Guiding a Canadian Startup from Zero Brush Experience to a 2,000-Piece Launch Order
A Canadian startup brand with zero experience in hair brushes needed end-to-end guidance — from bristle type education and sample testing to last-minute logo changes — resulting in a 2,000-piece first order ready for their brand launch.
The Story
A Canadian entrepreneur was launching a new hair care brand focused on natural, eco-friendly products. They had no prior experience sourcing hair brushes and needed a supplier who could guide them from concept to finished product — not just fill an order.
The client knew they wanted wood material for its natural look and sustainability appeal, but had no knowledge of bristle types, brush shapes, or what would actually work for their target market.
What They Were Worried About
The biggest challenge was the client's lack of product knowledge. They couldn't specify exactly what they wanted because they didn't yet know the difference between boar bristle, nylon pins, and steel pins — or which would best suit their target market. This meant extensive sampling and education before any production decisions could be made.
Midway through production, the client realized they needed to change their logo. With engraving already scheduled as the final production step, the timing was tight and any delay could have pushed back the entire delivery.
The client also had no confirmed Pantone color for their packaging — they had a general color preference but no technical specification to hand off to production.
How We Delivered
- Sent two rounds of samples featuring different wooden brush models with varied bristle types — boar bristle, nylon pins, and steel pins — so the client could physically compare and decide
- Provided detailed analysis of each bristle type's performance characteristics, helping the client understand which suited their brand positioning
- Accommodated a last-minute logo change during production by coordinating immediately with the factory — since laser engraving was the final step, the new logo was swapped in without delaying delivery
- Recommended specific Pantone color references for packaging based on the client's general color preference, photographing physical swatches for confirmation
- Shipped pre-production samples within one week to keep the project moving quickly
