Green sandalwood is dense, oily and dark olive with almost black streaking. It polishes to a soft sheen without lacquer, because the timber has enough natural oil to take a finish on its own — which is the reason this wood is used for combs rather than for anything structural.
Each tooth is cut into the solid blank and then hand-finished. That matters more on a comb than on almost anything else we make: a moulded plastic comb carries a parting line down every tooth, and that line is what snags hair. A cut tooth has no seam to catch on.

Shaped from the same blank as the comb, so there is no join. On a wooden comb the handle is where a two-part construction fails first, and cutting the whole thing from one piece removes the failure mode entirely.

Bulk production starts once the pre-production sample is approved in writing. Reorders of a running design are faster, because tooling and colour are already set.
