The teeth on this one are turned rather than cut — round in section, spaced well apart, and finished with a domed head. It looks unusual next to a conventional comb and it is used differently: the domes are for working the scalp, not for sectioning hair.
A flat cut tooth has an edge, and an edge is what parts hair. A domed round tooth has none, so it slides against the scalp instead of scoring it. That is why this shape sells as a scalp or massage comb rather than as a dressing comb, and why it works on wet hair without the pull a flat comb gives.
The wide spacing follows from the same thing: round teeth cannot be set as close as cut ones without losing the gaps that let hair through. If your brief is detangling and sectioning, the flat-tooth sandalwood comb is the right one.
