Four barrel sizes, every one of them measured: 3.9, 4.9, 5.9 and 6.6 cm, all on a 25.7 cm overall length, weighing 32, 67, 94 and 120 g. That is the whole range on one line, which is unusual enough in round brushes to be worth stating plainly.
The barrel is hollow and perforated in a honeycomb pattern rather than slotted in straight lines. The practical difference is that a honeycomb hole pattern removes more of the barrel wall for the same remaining stiffness than parallel slots do — more open area, more airflow, without the barrel going soft under hand pressure.
Heat spreads evenly across the perforated wall instead of concentrating on a hot strip, which is what stops a vented barrel from scorching one part of a section while the rest is still damp.
Turned wood with deep finger grooves and drilled recesses along the length. The grooves are the part that matters: blow-drying means gripping a rotating handle with a damp hand, and a smooth cylinder turns in the palm exactly when you need it not to.
It tapers to a tail pin for sectioning, so the stylist can part a clean section without swapping tools.
Heat-resistant nylon with rounded tips. Rounded tips are the specification to check on any nylon brush — a cut tip is a sharp edge dragged across the scalp several hundred times per use. Boar and nylon mixed fill runs on the same barrel if you want more smoothing.
Every wooden part on this brush also runs in bamboo. It is the same turning and the same tooling — what changes is the blank we start from, so the decision is yours to make on positioning rather than ours to make on engineering.
Bamboo is the harder and denser of the two, it takes a slightly cooler tone, and for a lot of buyers it is the one that carries the sustainability story more convincingly because it is a grass that regrows in years rather than decades. Beech and schima take colour better and machine to a warmer finish. Ask for both at sampling — it costs nothing extra to see them side by side, and it is much easier to decide with the two in your hand.
