Because the body is identical, a brand can run both as a two-SKU range with one cutting and finishing setup. That is the commercial reason this product exists.
Stained through the surface and sealed to a satin rather than a gloss. Black is the finish salon retail asks for most often, and it is the one that photographs consistently — a stained black body has none of the piece-to-piece grain variation that pale timber does, which matters when a retailer is shooting a range.
It also means a logo needs foil or ink rather than laser engraving — a burn does not read on a dark ground. Pale-timber bodies like the beech oval are the ones to engrave.
The two heads feel completely different in the hand, and a sample of one tells you nothing about the other. If both are going into the range, ask for both samples — what a sample costs and what to check is in sampling costs and approval.
