The figuring on this sheet runs in long flame-like streaks rather than the blotches of a conventional tortoiseshell, and because the handle is cut from the block lengthways, those streaks follow the handle instead of cutting across it. It is a small thing that photographs well and is difficult to fake with a printed finish.
The handle finishes in a flat squared paddle rather than a rounded tip. That is a deliberate detail with two consequences: the brush stands up on a shelf, and it does not roll off a dressing table. If your retail presentation is open display rather than boxed, it is worth more than it looks.
At 21 × 6 cm this is the compact body in our acetate smoothing family. The 24 cm amber brush is the long version, and the 22 cm marbled brush sits between them.
Longer nylon pins reach the scalp; shorter boar tufts between them carry the natural oil down the shaft. The result smooths and polishes. It is not a wet detangler — for that, quote the ball-tip nylon pin brush instead.
Cellulose acetate is layered coloured sheet, pressed and then cut. The pattern is inside the material, so a cut edge still shows it and the colour cannot chip.
