This is the largest brush in our oval range at 24 cm, and the one that reads most clearly as an heirloom object. The body is solid Schima wood — a dense southern-Chinese hardwood, sometimes sold as Chinese guger tree — finished in a deep chocolate tone, with a small pale inlay set into the handle end — a detail that costs almost nothing and does more for perceived value than any amount of packaging.

A Long Handle Changes the Stroke

At 24 cm, roughly half the length is handle. That geometry suits brushing long hair while seated at a dresser: the hand starts high, the brush travels the full length of the hair, and the wrist never has to reposition. It is a slower, more deliberate motion than a compact brush, and it is the reason this format keeps selling into the vanity and gifting category rather than the travel one.

The head is 8.5 cm across — wide enough to work a full section, narrow enough to follow the curve of the skull rather than skating over it.

Steel Pins on a Gold Cushion

Stainless steel pins with polished ball tips run in a staggered pattern through a gold-toned rubber cushion. Steel pins glide rather than grip, which is what you want on hair that is already detangled — the pass smooths the cuticle and carries scalp oil down the length instead of catching at it. The ball tip is what keeps that from being harsh on the scalp, and its quality is the difference between a brush that feels like a massage and one that feels like a rake.

The cushion is vented, so it compresses under pressure and recovers rather than staying flat after a few months of use — the failure most people notice and few can name.

Schima Wood, Sprayed but Legible

Schima is close-grained and hard enough to hold a crisp engraved edge, which is why we use it where a logo has to stay sharp. The colour is sprayed rather than stained, applied to an even chocolate tone that still lets the grain direction show through. Compared with our black-sprayed oval brush, which deliberately hides the wood, this one keeps the material visible — the two are built for opposite briefs and sell to different buyers, which is why we make both.
