Everything that touches the hair on this brush is wood. The pins are turned from timber and finished with a ball tip, set into a vented cushion, in a body cut from dark walnut. There is no metal and no synthetic filament anywhere in the head.
A wooden pin is thicker than a steel or nylon one, so there are fewer of them and they sit further apart. That makes the brush a separator rather than a smoother — it moves through thick hair without dragging, and it does not build the static charge that a synthetic pin does on a dry day.
The trade-off is honest and worth stating: wooden pins cannot be made as fine as steel, so this is not the brush for polishing a sleek finish. For that, quote a steel-pin body such as the black oval with steel pins.
Each pin is shaped with its tip already rounded rather than having a separate cap pushed on. A pushed-on cap is the part that comes off in the first month on a cheap brush, and once it does the bare pin end scratches. There is nothing here to detach.
Stained and sealed rather than dyed through, so the grain still reads under the colour. The same body runs in pale beech — see the beech oval brush — and in bamboo, as the bamboo oval. Wood and bamboo are two blanks through the same shaping process for us, so choosing between them is a material decision, not a tooling one.
