A beard brush and a hair brush are not the same tool wearing different labels. A beard is shorter, coarser and grows out of skin that is being brushed at the same time, so the brush has to be stiff enough to reach through to the base and gentle enough not to leave the face red. That combination is why boar bristle has never really been replaced here.
Boar bristle is structurally close to hair. It has a scaled surface that picks up sebum at the root and carries it down the length of the beard, which is the actual mechanism behind a beard looking conditioned after brushing rather than just tidier. Nylon has a smooth surface — it moves hair without distributing anything.
The trade-off is that boar is a natural fibre with natural variation, so bristle stiffness has to be graded rather than specified as a number. Tell us whether you are designing for a short stubble beard or a long full one and we will grade accordingly at sampling.
Both run on the same profile logic, so a brand can list them as a home-and-travel pair rather than two unrelated products. In grooming that pairing works particularly well, because the customer who buys the large one is exactly the customer who later buys the small one.
The recessed channel across the back is not decoration. A beard brush is used one-handed at an awkward angle in front of a mirror, often with wet hands, and a flat-backed palm brush rotates in the grip. The channel gives the fingers something to locate against so the brush stays square to the face through the stroke.
It is also the natural place for a logo, which is why we cut it deep enough to take a recessed engraving with paint fill rather than a surface print that wears off at exactly the point the hand touches.

Yes. Stock is a dark-stained hardwood. Beech, walnut, bamboo and untreated light wood all run on the same shape, and the wood tone changes the shelf position of the product more than any other single variable.
