The body is laminated bamboo, the pins are turned wood, and the cushion beneath them is a moulded pad — that pad is the one component that is not plant matter, and it exists on every cushion brush ever made because nothing else rebounds the same way. Everything the hair touches is wood.

Bamboo is a grass and comes in culms, not blocks, so strips are cut, dried and laminated into board before anything is shaped. That is why the striping runs the length of the handle and why node lines show. It also makes the stock dimensionally stable in a bathroom, which solid timber is not.
